My mom's birthday was Oct. 27th.
My boss gave me a three day weekend (whoops!).
I hadn't been to Oregon in a year and a half, so I figured it was time.
I bought a plane ticket and flew home for a weekend!
Everyone picked me up at the airport, which was awesome! Lots of hugs and smiles and hugs. I have such a cool family.
I got to see my baby sister (who is not so baby - she's 16 and awesome) perform in her final marching band competition of the season. She's a drum major and is seriously great at it. While I haven't done anything related to marching band in 8 years, it was fun to see her perform (and brought back some fun memories). We had lots of fun screaming and cheering for S and the marching band!
I got to see both of my brothers as well, which was great. My youngest brother spoke in church and did a great job. My younger brother spent the a lot of the weekend grading for the classes he TA's - we commiserated together on our TAing experiences.
Mommy and I got to play together all day Monday. We even carved pumpkins and roasted the seeds. And then we went out for her birthday dinner that night to PF Changs. (Happy birthday, Mom!)
We all played Apples to Apples together and spent a lot of time laughing at our own silliness. (That's one of my favorite things to do with my family - play games and then laugh because we're all silly.)
It was a fantastic, albeit short, weekend. I'm so glad that my family's just a short flight away!
And I'm grateful that I get to see them again at Thanksgiving!
Isn't family the best?
