I was called for jury duty today. I've never been summoned before. I showed up at 9:30 (ish - I couldn't find parking downtown). They put us all in a room where we hung out for a while. And then they said stuff to us. And then we sat around some more. And then they brought us all into a court room so we could be questioned. They decided on a jury before it was my turn to be questioned, so I got to go. So I spent my whole morning listening to other people tell their life stories so they could be selected or voted off (some of them were pretty entertaining. Others, totally boring. One lady got dismissed because she didn't speak English.). The case itself made me giggle a little too. And the whole time, I kept thinking about Law and Order. It wasn't nearly that glamorous.
I have to call on Friday to see if they need me again. And I'm on call all month. It's funny how they call you for one day, but you're still "on call" for another 27.
So, I didn't go to work today because I was being a good citizen.
Isn't jury duty fun?

Crazy! I've never done it either, but it sounds like a good reason to miss work :)
ReplyDeleteLucky you're on call for the shortest month of the year!
