I missed the boat on Father's Day so I'm going to make up for it now.
Better late than never, right?
Some of my fondest memories are listening to my daddy sing, "You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold, you're daddy's little girl to have and to hold. A precious gem, that's what you are. You're daddy's bright and shining star. You're the spirit of Christmas, my star on the tree. You're the Easter bunny to mommy and me. You're sugar, you're spice, you're everything nice, and you're daddy's little girl." or dancing on his his feet to the song from Sleeping Beauty. (We danced to both at our wedding. And, I saw one of our friends and his daughters doing the same and it brought tears to my eyes.) Daddy could always make me laugh with his funny thumb. He could suck out any hurt. I remember falling asleep many nights to the sound of his laugh as he watched whatever on TV with Mom and loving it. Daddy was the one who always tried to fix my problems - that's what he is, a fixer. I am so blessed to be his daughter. He is loved and admired by so many and I am lucky to have had him my whole life! I love watching him at church - he knows everyone's names and their stories and genuinely cares about each of them. He loves the Lord and lives his testimony and is such a good example to me and D.
Happy (late) Father's Day, Daddy.
And to my father in law, he is a strong and incredible man. He is a strong leader - people want to follow his example because he lives what leads. He has quite the sense of humor, too! (You better be able to take teasing from him!) His family is so important to him and I love that. An avid BYU football fan, we always gather at his house for games and he is leading the cheering - I love being married into a BYU sports family! He is reliable and has been there for us when we've been in need many times. He is a wonderful example to me and D, as well. We are so blessed!
Happy (late) Father's Day, FIL!
I have also been blessed with many father figures in my life. When I was at college, I had bishops and a couple of professors who were fatherly to me, taking me in, listening, supporting me while I was far away from my Daddy. We also have the examples of wonderful fathers (BIL, uncles, cousins, friends) who show us by their examples how to be great fathers. While we were at a family 4th of July BBQ yesterday, it was so great to watch the dad and granddads with all the kids. They all had so much fun in the pool, playing wiffle ball, etc. I love it!
And, ultimately, I am grateful for my Heavenly Father. He is the ultimate creator and father. Sometimes I'll find myself feeling like Heavenly Father is so high and mighty and so far removed from my imperfect self. And then I remember that He is my father and suddenly I feel so much more connected to Him and His love. I am so grateful to my Father for knowing who I am and what I am capable of and being willing to correct and carry me on my way back to Him.
Happy Late Father's Day :)
