Homemade Wrap Around A-Line Skirt

As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm not a seamstress.
However, after tackling and conquring the maxi skirt, I felt like I could try an a-line wrap skirt that I've had my eyes on forever.

The skirt seemed simple enough - it's a block layout, all straight lines.
How hard could it be?

Famous last words.

My first attempt took me somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 hours.
Lots of seam ripping, tension adjusting, calling my mom to interpret the directions, yelling at the bobbin for running out again, muttering choice words under my breath... you get the idea.

But, I didn't give up.
I did it!
And then, I did it again!

The skirt on the right is the one I sewed first.  I adjusted the measurements because of the amount of fabric I had available.  I changed the waistband to 11" wide instead of the 15" the pattern calls for.  I also used a panel of fabric longer than 70" for the skirt portion.

The skirt on the left is my second one - this one went much faster.  I did the proportions exactly as called for in the pattern with the exception of the ties - those are longer than the 140" the pattern calls for.  Honestly, I wish I had made a thinner waist panel and a longer skirt panel like I did in the chevron one, but oh well!

The most difficult parts for me were the pleats.  I've never sewn pleats before (who am I kidding - I've never really sewn anything before).

Here's what the chevron skirt looks like styled:
Skirt: Homemade!
Shoes: Target
Cardigan: Old Navy
Blouse: Target
Necklace: Caroline G

I love it!!

I have plans/fabric to make 2 more a-line knee-length skirts.  I love this pattern, but I'm thinking it would also be fun to mix it up a little with another pattern.  Any suggestions?
